Peugeot 408

Hatchbacks are only popular in Europe. Anywhere else, sedans always outsell any other body style, and China is no different. That’s why Peugeot has launched a new sedan model specifically for the Chinese market, called the 408. Interestingly, it is not a replacement for the 407, but rather a sedan version of the 308. The real replacement of the 407, slated for next year, will be called the 508.

To be built in China, the 408 might actually end up coming to the GCC some day, considering the UAE already gets an awful Iranian-built sedan version of the 206.

The Dong Feng Peugeot 408 is the work of a joint venture set up between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the Chinese group DFM. It has a full-year sales target of 100,000 units in China, which recently overtook the United States as the largest car market in the world.
